Introduction

The Edge Controller works in combination with Giraffe's software platform. They are typically used inside solar CCTV towers.

Primary functionality

Network Video Recorder

The Edge Controller replaces a typical NVR. A storage drive (typically an SSD) can be connected to it via USB which will be used to record the camera footage.

Performance considerations

• The Edge Controller is designed to work with 4 cameras, each with 2 streams (one HD and one SD).

• It can work with more than 4 cameras but this was not what it was designed to do.

• We recommend configuring the SD stream to be 360P (640x360) or 480P (640x480).

• We recommend configuring the HD stream to be 720P (1280x720) or 1080P (1920x1080).

• We recommend setting both streams to around 10 frames per second.

• The SD stream must be set to 1 key frame per second for the AI processing to work well.

The above suggestions are not requirements and the Edge Controller will attempt to work with whatever a camera is set to. However, our experience with 4G connected CCTV systems suggests this is the optimal setup.

AI Appliance

The Edge Controller has an advanced AI module built in. The AI processor will inspect frames from the cameras and generate events.

The AI processor is designed for construction site security (or similar applications). Our focus is on intrusion detection and perimeter protection.

The Edge Controller can also ingest SMTP events sent from a camera.

Power Management

The Edge Controller has advanced power management and monitoring capabilities. It can either work in standalone mode or as part of a Victron system.

The Edge Controller has 7 controllable outputs that can be used to switch power going to various accessories such as cameras and floodlights.

When running as a mains powered system, the internal battery and charger current sensors can be used to estimate battery life.

When integrated with a Victron shunt and solar charger, you will get advanced detail about the performacne of the tower and it's estimated battery life.

Environmental Control

The Edge Controller has a built in fan controller that can automatically control a 4 pin fan with feedback.

The Edge Controller also has various temperature sensors.

Audio Controller

The Edge Controller can send audio to an amplifier or powered speaker. These can be prerecorded or live talk downs.
