MSU Generations

First Generation MSU

Identifying

  • usually have a version 3.1 or 3.2 Edge Controller PCB inside (unless they have been upgraded)

  • will have 'G-501' as the product code

Limitations

  • The battery charging logic in first generation MSUs was quite basic. This means that the battery will take a while to return to 100% and will discharge to around 50% when the floodlights are left on for an extended period of time.

  • The internal battery charger struggles to power the floodlights for an extended period of time and can overheat. It requires a power cycle (unplug the charger and plug it in again) to reset. Later versions with the external mains charger do not have this problem and can power the floodlights permanently.
