Notification system

A general overview of how we decide when to send an alert to a user

PreviousError statesNextPerson / vehicle alerts

Last updated 3 months ago

The Giraffe Cloud has a simple but powerful system for managing the flow of notifications coming from Edge Controllers.

Types of notification

There are three categories of notification that the Giraffe Cloud can send

Intrusion Such as person detected, vehicle detected, PIR sensor triggered

Tamper Such as doors opened, mains power disconnected

System Such as system offline, low GSM signal

Please see the documentation page for full details on what events each category contains.

Notification rules

Intrusion email alerts are sent out when the following conditions are true

  • a camera is set to Notify Onlyor Alarm Level 1 or Alarm Level 2in it's alarm configuration

  • vehicle or person notifications are enabled on a camera

  • intrusion alerts are enabled on the Edge Controller (see note below)

  • the Edge Controller is armed

  • an individual user has intrusion alerts enabled in his notification settings

Please note that there is currently a bug that is causing video events (such as person and vehicle events) to bypass the 'intrusion' setting of the Edge Controller. Video events will be sent regardless of this setting.

There is an open issue to fix this: (internal only).

System and tamper alerts are sent out when the following conditions are true

  • system or tamper alerts are enabled on the Edge Controller respectively

  • an individual user has system or tamper alerts enabled in his notification settings respectively

Note that system and tamper alerts are sent out irrespective of whether the system is armed or not. This is so as the system can be disarmed during the day when intrusion events are expected, but the Edge Controller will still notify if it is tampered with (for instance, it loses it's mains power connection).

Note that individual user notification settings are global and apply to all teams that the user is a direct member of. Therefore if you enable email notifications, you will receive notifications from all teams you are part of.

You will not receive notifications for teams that you have access to due to it being a reseller account child team. If you wish to receive notifications from a child team, you will need to add yourself as a direct member.

Note that changing the notification settings may also affect the notifications that are sent to the alarm receiving centre.

Please see the ARC integration page for more details.

Configuring notification settings

Edge Controller notification settings can be configured on the Notifications tab.

Camera notification settings can be configured on the Advanced tab of a camera settings page.

Individual user notification settings can be configured via the Notifications option on the user profile menu

Troubleshooting notifications

Intrusion notifications

  1. Check that artificial intelligence is enabled on the camera and that it is uploading AI events.

  2. Check that notifications are enabled at the camera level for the event that you are interested in.

  3. Check that intrusion notifications are enabled at the Edge Controller level in the notification settings.

  4. Check that you have enabled intrusion notifications in your user notification settings.

  5. Check that the Edge Controller is currently armed

You can see a history of notifications that have been sent on your user notifications settings page.

System and tamper notifications

  1. Check that system or tamper notifications are enabled at the Edge Controller level in the notification settings.

  2. Check that you have enabled system or tamper notifications in your user notification settings.

You can see a history of notifications that have been sent on your user notifications settings page.
